Sally and I finally got to work in the garden some this weekend. Before we started we went and picked up our new loveseat. Well, its not really new. It is a garage sale piece that we had recovered. However, it is Very cute!
After geting the couch we went to the dump. That's right, we buy our compost from the Brenham dump. It is a whopping one cent per pound! A full pick up load (1400 pounds) set us back just $14. We filled our raised beds and got everything ready for planting. Next, we went to an abandoned farm house in Brenham and rescued tons of plants (of course we had permission). We got TONS of bulbs ...Iris's, lillies, paper whites, and cannas. Also got something that we think is called firebush or hummingbird bush. It has very lovely orange flowers and I have high hopes for it. It lloks very lovely up against our yellow shrubs and mixed with the bulbines. We stopped early so we could go to mass. Finished the evening with a fab meal. Sally fixed us pork chops, asparagus and brocolli. Even had time to watch a 70s cult classic, "Harold and Maude".
I got up at 6:30 to finish our planting. It was made doubly fun by the fact that everything was frozen! Broke the crust on the compost and planted English Peas, onions and white potatoes. Finished the weekend with a quick trip to Hubbard Texas for my niece Megan's baby shower.

OMG harold and maude is my favorite movie ever.
