Yupneck

yup neck, noun, an young upwardly mobile professional that clings to his redneck heritage.

I am a yupneck. This revelation came to me the way most revelations come to guys; over a few beers. One night, my college roommate and I were drinking and talking. We started talking about some the terms being used to describe people in our generation. Yuppies, Metro Sexuals, Rednecks, etc. We didn't fit neatly into any of those categories, so we decided to create our own. We were a couple of good ol' boys that had gone to the big city and done alright for ourselves. While we liked our big house in town and our SUVs, our hearts were still back in the country where we were raised. We were a little country and little bit Yuppie. Hence, the YUPNECK was born.

I will use this column to discuss issues that interest or amuse me. Hopefully they will interest other Yupnecks as well.
