My Biker Babe

Well, Sally got on a bike this Saturday. What a time she had. She started out by wiping out in the front yard and injuring her thumb. However, she sucked it up and marched on!!!! We had a lovely 11 mile ride from our house to the bridge on 290 by Blinn. We saw a dead copper head, a fox, a Mexican eagle and a box turtle. We also met two guys. One was an attorney in town and he invited us to ride with a group in Brenham. Then we ran into another nice fellow that was finding back roads from Houston to Austin. Turns out Old Highway 20 was the road that connected the two. Old Mill Creek was a part of that. Also learned that all of the granite slabs that litter the country side around our house were intended for the sea wall in Galveston. A train derailed and they had no way to reload them. After the ride, we had a very busy but fulfilling day. We finished the closet in the laundry room and then built a bird house. It is really cute. Mounted it on on of the old posts from the front porch. We planted cosmos, coreopsis and hummingbird vine. Also worked on the privacy fence a little bit. Very tired.

Sunday we went to 8:00 mass and then went and helped Pam get moved back in. Buddy and Kim came and we all had a great time. worked hard, ate pizza and had some REALLY good wine.

More MS 150 stuff

The MS 150 was a huge thing in my life so I want to share a few more images from it.

MS150-Kind of

Well, 5 months of training and the MS 150 was almost for naught. 11" of rain at the fair grounds in La Grange and terrible rain on Saturday forced the powers that be to cancel the first day. Jessie and I were a little disappointed. However, we made the most of it. Spent a lazy day at Brenham watching movies. Johnny's father-in-law Jerry, brough Johnny and Karl out to the house. We all carbo loaded on FABULOUS spaghetti (made by Sally) and wine. Had a lovely dinner topped off with brownies, ice cream and coffee. Sunday morning we were up at 4:00. I cooked pancakes and then our support team (Sally) took us to our start point. It was an absolutely wonderful ride from La Grange to Buecher State park. Even the park was not too bad. Jessie did get something in her eye so that made her park a little less enjoyable. Rode to lunch in Bastrop. Nice lunch. Then we got on our bikes and headed back out. OMG!!!! The body did not want to ride after lunch and then to make things a little more fun, God kicked up a 15 mph head wind. The next 16 miles were miserable. When we stopped at the next to the last Break Point, we felt good again. Rode past the final break point and straight into Austin. We were never so happy to finish something in our entire lives!!!! Glad we did it, but both of us agreed that we did not love it by any means. Chris and Alley and Whitney were waiting with Sally at the finish line. That part was really fun. After the race, Whitney took us to a Mexican food place close to her house. We had a lovely visit and really enjoyed our time with her.

Easter

What a wonderful holiday! Sally and i were off for four days and it was wonderful! I started the vacation with a 30 mile ride with Karl and Johnny. We rode the Tricounty Hill Hopper route. Katie and Moose came in Friday night. Sally fixed a lovely pasta and shrimp dish finished with a very nice white wine. Saturday Moose helped me paint and Katie and Sally cooked all weekend. Thanks to Moose's help, the house is really starting to come together. Jessie showed up Saturday afternoon.. We had a late lunch of Sally's Signature Spaghetti then it was off to Mass. LONG MASS!!!! Back home at 10:30. Sunday brought Gran, Ginna and Chris. Wonderful lunch and great familt time. We played football and croquet in the front yard. Then we finished off the day with Sally's homemade bunny cake. Sally and stayed and worked in the yard on Monday. Put another load of compost on our beds. Also painted a bay tree. It is the herb of the year! Cleaned up and headed home. Picked up my packet for the MS 150! Cannot believe it is just 1 week away!!!!

SPRING!!!

Spring is here!!!! This is definately my favorite time of the year. Things are new and fresh. Everything is in bloom. Bees are buzzing and birds are building. This is the time of year that I am most aware of the presence and mystery of God.

Sally and I have been busy in the garden and the yard. Things are looking good. We have planted and now we wait. The work we have done over the past two weeks will nuture us until early fall. Watching the flowers and vegetables grow is truly theraputic! There is so much joy to be had in nature if you are willing to be patient and watch!

Over the past two weeks we have had visits from Whitney, Chris and Patricia Lepe and her friend James. We love company! Right now is a great time to come as the bluebonnets are FABULOUS!!! Sally is responsible for those and I am so proud of the way she has increased the beauty of them each year. The pic speaks for itself!!! Come see us!
